Borough's Film Festival Promises Big Picture Payoff
March 18, 2015 — Pottstown, PA — Films, fun and food are coming to Pottstown, Pennsylvania in the area's very first film festival! The ambitious talent showcase will spotlight the Pottstown region and is scheduled for June 2016.
The organizing committee of the Pottstown IN FOCUS Short Film Festival has started planning well in advance to assure a successful and significant event that will create opportunity for the Borough on the upswing.
"We're confident that a professional film festival will raise awareness of Pottstown's potential," says Erica Weekley, festival chair. "This is unlike anything that has been done before and we're adamant about doing it right."
The festival, in its organizing phase, is actively searching for event sponsors at all levels as well as volunteers to help on a variety of committees including Fundraising, Partners, Curation and Promotions.
"We are looking for energetic and creative contributors who either love film, are interested in helping Pottstown improve, or both," adds Weekley "We have a great core team but we need to fill in some gaps to make this event amazing, and we will."
Pottstown IN FOCUS Short Film Festival was an idea that was developed after months of brainstorming on a vehicle that would creatively involve multiple stakeholders while effectively showcasing Pottstown to residents and to the world.
The festival is also encouraging filmmakers, both amateur and professional, to start considering entry concepts as there will be significant prize money and other awards for the winners in multiple categories including documentary, historical, fiction, science fiction, comedy/satire, music video and a student category. Entries in these categories must present a digital film via the festival's website that is thirty minutes or less and positions Pottstown as the subject, setting or character.
 The festival will also be awarding a grand prize in the special category, A Love Letter to Pottstown in which all entries must be five minutes or less.
Additional winners will receive a special award for films that highlight healthy living, the environment, outdoor recreation, a neighborhood focus and cinematography as well as best performance, best interview and best soundtrack.
"We're hopeful that the competition will effectively inspire a lot of people in the region and beyond to get creative and submit an entry," said Weekley "The more entries we receive, the better the content will be and a big part of Pottstown In Focus is the actual event."
Scheduled June 6-10, 2016, the Pottstown IN FOCUS Short Film Festival will show the top films at various partnering venues throughout Pottstown featuring a variety of food, entertainment and participatory events. The week of the festival is certain to be a lively time in Pottstown with can't miss events scheduled every day!
